My starting ideas are to create a typically beautiful piece that represents a regular kitchen knife, similar to those that have been used in attacks in the UK and those that are seen in the Teenage Knife Wars documentary.
To do this I have started a floral embroidery piece. I have chosen this design as it feels like a very natural way to work and is universally recognised as something pretty, therefore the effect when used to decorate a knife is significant. After starting this piece I decided that I wanted to take out the outline stitch when the image was completed to add to the delicacy of the image.
This piece of work remains incomplete because my research has moved forward and the large labour time of hand embroidery has become a problem this early on as it prevents me from moving forward with other ideas as my research develops.
