Participatory Public Art Idea
This page shows to development of a participatory public art piece. My initial ideas can be seen on the skechbook page. I wanted to design a piece that would bring a community together, each hand print would be done by a different person. People would also be able to write messages within their hand print.
I started to create a visual image through digital drawing, this allowed me to see what this idea might actually look like.
Following this I painted a ceramic sphere I had left over from an old project, this will act as a maquette, my next steps will be to Photoshop images of this into different locations. This way I will also be able to experiment with scale.

Scale is something that has already proven to be problematic with this piece. I want the piece to be large, my initial ideas where for ti to be taller than 6ft. However this creates lots of problems for the participatory element. There are health and safety issues but as well as this, if your hand print is on the top no one will be able to see it. I raised this issue during the presentations seminar. It was suggested that I think about using a different shape instead. I have begun to model different shape ideas however these models have turned out to be very messy and therefore I need to return to this.
