The Super Moon

After photographing the super moon on 7th May I was inspired by the colours and shapes that I was able to capture by using the night setting on my phone camera. By first response to this was to sketch some of the shapes and tones into a small sketchbook. It felt natural to have a way to instantly respond to what I was seeing out of my bedroom window. This also lead me to think about the way the world carry's on during the weird times that we are in. I have also felt myself paying more attention to the way nature is changing and noticing things that before I would have found myself too busy to pay attention to.

After the first drawing I experimented with recreating the colours in the image I had captured using oil pastels on black card. I think this was particularly successful because of how easy it is to blend colours using this method.

I then used the oil pastel piece to make a painted piece in the same style. This felt very different because of the way the brush strokes work in comparison to the oil pastels.

After this I decided to focus more on the colours and shapes formed. To do this I used an abstract style by painting bold shapes. This was interesting because it made me focus more on the colours that are less obvious in the photograph.
