As we are unable to continue with exhibitions Georgia Plumb has set up a virtual gallery using an Instagram page. The first theme for submissions was Feminism. For this I submitted an older embroidery piece about abortions. This piece feels very different to the rest of my practice at the moment. It is much more personal and emotional to myself whereas I often work with topics that I have an outside perspective on.
Social media is a really good platform for works like this as I hope to open up conversations that I felt were unavailable to me. Through the use of hashtags and sharing I am able to reach other people who may have the same experiences. I believe that it is important to show that this conversation is available and to make talking about experiences such as this normal.
