Poster Development

I decided that I needed to change the image on this poster. The image of Lord Kitchener was irrelevant and so I started this development with a drawing of Boris Johnson.

The begin with I found an image of Johnson pointing to draw. However this was unsuccessful because the hand appeared too small and his shoulder was too square. This might be emphasised because I have only drawn on side of is clothing but I wanted to stick to the stile of the original image. Although this image is comical and appears to play with the relationship between Boris Johnson and Donald Trump with the regular mocking of Trump on social media for having small hands.

For the second drawing I chose to use the original hand but added details it so that it shows the cuff of a shirt and suit that would be worn Johnson. I draw this over the top of a drawing of Johnson's face. The only other details of clothing I used in this version is the collar and knot of his tie. This one was much more successful however if I was to do this again I think I would try and make him look much more stressed and tired to emphasise my message.

In the first poster I made I changed the line 'GOD SAVE THE KING' to 'GOD SAVE THE NHS'. However, I felt this would be inappropriate to use alongside an image of Boris Johnson given his reputation for being unsupportive to the NHS. For this reason I chose to use the phrase 'GOD I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS'. With this I am attempting to add a comical message and mimicking the Prime Minister for his desperation to have Brexit for his reputation but to end up being known for being PM during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Lucy-Eve Wright also collaborated with me on these posers by using my ideas in a digital format. She used both my drawing and photographs to experiment with different styles. Originally she used my drawing however I felt this didn't work against the digital text even with the 'YOU' was moved up to fit in with the drawing. For the photographs I think the most successful ones are the one where Johnson is pointing directly forward and the one where he has his hand on his head. I think the latter one works particularly well with the phase 'GOD I DIDN'T SIGN UP TO THIS'. I think these poster could be developed by fitting the 'YOU' in with the image like in the original poster. We also experimented with using Boris rather than Britons. I think this works when making a comment about the Prime Minister but not in sharing the message of staying at home to the public.
