Directed by Spike Lee.
Colorado Spings in early 70s
"Ron Stallworth, an African-American detective, embarks on a mission to infiltrate his town's chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist hate group."
I was recommended this film in a group tutorial because of the violent scenes at the end of the film.
Something that I found particularly interesting about the film is the soft colours and lighting used though out. I find the colours calming and contrast heavily with the subject of the film.
There is also a notably small amount of violent scenes within the film. In contrast with the tough and real topic that the film is about I found this very easy to watch.
The effect of this is massively emphasised when the film finishes and cuts to clips from 2017 in Charlottesville Virginia, USA.
The footage at the end of the film is extremely hard to watch and shows large amounts of violence.
Notes straight after watching:
Its believed to be less of a problem in recent history however the violence is still there iand in some cases increased.
Cars plowing through crowds.
(Normal to be more violent)
If the film was violent would the latest clips be less effective?
- agreed that it was so hard to watch because of the dramatic difference between the mood of the film and the mood of the real 2017 clips.
